It was the sixth year in a row that a horse from interstate scored victory in the Hobart Cup.

After jumping away well from barrier four and getting a nice clear run, the Graeme Rogerson-trained Bid Spotter ($14.90) and jockey Michael Rodd went wide on the straight and stormed home in a career best win for the Redoute’s Choice five-year-old.

The official 2011 Hobart Cup result was Bid Spotter ($14.90) a half-length winner over local runner Organised ($18) and Davon ($19.30) a half-length away again in third.

After having the run of the race from the inside alley along the rails, dual Country Cups winner Red Buttons ($7.10) finished fourth one place ahead of race favourite Dream Pedlar ($5.70) in fifth.

The Hobart Cup victory bought Bid Spotter’s career record up to six wins from 26 starts for over $437,000 in prize money earned.

The $225,000 Group 3 Launceston Cup (2400m) on Wednesday February 23 is next on the agenda for Bid Spotter who has dual Group glory in Tasmanian in their sights.

The 2011 Hobart Cup is due to run as Race 7 on Sunday February 13, 2011, and here we have put together the latest betting tips for the race.

The 2,200 metre Hobart Cup is worth $300,000 and has attracted 16 runners hoping to take out the Group 3 title.

We have picked six-year-old gelding and Tasmanian local #1 Dream Pedlar to win.

Dream Pedlar has won four races already this prep and has drawn barrier seven for Sunday’s race.

Micheal Kent’s Red Buttons seems to be the best bet for second place.

Red Buttons has won four of his last five starts and has drawn barrier one in the 2011 Hobart Cup.

Finally, we are tipping Ray Worbey’s Organised to cross the line third.

The seven-year-old gelding won his last start over 2,100 metres and will be ridden by jockey David Pires in the 2011 Hobart Cup.

Hobart Race 7 Tips – Hobart Cup

Our Favourite: #1 Dream Pedlar

Best Place Bets: #2 Red Buttons and #11 Organised

The Group 3 Hobart Cup will be run over 2,200 metres and is worth $300,000.

18 horses have accepted for the 2011 Hobart Cup, leaving us with a full field of 16 plus two emergencies.

Dream Pedlar has been shown early support, with many people hoping he will be the first Tasmanian horse in six years to win the Hobart Cup.

Dream Pedlar, trained by Troy Blacker, will be ridden by Victorian jockey Craig Williams who has won three Hobart Cups in the past four years.

Troy Blacker is very happy with his horses number seven barrier draw.

“That’s a nice barrier and it gives us a few options,” Blacker said.

However, the 2011 Hobart Cup field will be sure to test the ability of Dream Pedlar, with many impressive horses contesting the title.

These include Micheal Kent’s Red Buttons, Chris Hyland’s Crabs, Jason Clifford’s Forbidden Quest, Russell Cameron’s Fast Future and Ray Worbey’s Organised.

The present emergencies for the 2011 Hobart Cup are Robert Smerdon’s Shewan and Charlie Goggin’s Family Trust.

If you would like to bet on the 2011 Hobart Cup, why not open an account with Luxbet today?

The premier event on Tasmania’s horse racing calendar is taking place this afternoon at Elwick Racecourse and betting is very much open.

The 2010 AAMI Hobart Cup will be the eighth race to be held at the racecourse and Rathsallagh is going into the 2200m event as odds-on favourite at $4.50.

Rathsallagh is going into the 2200m event as odds-on favourite at $4.50.

Starting from barrier nine, the Robert Smerdon-trained mare comes into the Cup with the last two starts as wins, and will be ridden by Glen Boss, the Cox Plate-winning jockey. However the 16-starter field is full of some top-quality competitors.

Bangerang Quikpic and Zavite follow closely as favourites at $6.50 and $7.50 respectively. The 2009 Melbourne Cup-starter Zavite is a strong contender having won over $1 million in prize money in his rich career.

Running from the inside barrier is six-year-old Ballack. The Danny O-Brien gelding will be hoping the barrier one advantage will be on his side as he enters the 2010 Hobart Cup at $17. The outside barrier will be host to Beven Heights, and the gelding is entering the run at $151, for punters looking for a lucky break.

Closing up the odds, along with George Blacker-trained Beven Heights, is Maybe French and Mr Isaac both also running at $151.

Tattersall’s Park is gearing up to its major horse racing event of the season with the AAMI 2010 Hobart Cup taking place on Monday.

The Group 3 handicap’s final field has been announced with 16 starters, half of which are from New Zealand, all out to compete for the lucrative $400,000 prize money.

Taking the coveted inside barrier is Danny O’Brien’s Ballack who has not placed in his last three runs so will be hoping to profit from the starting advantage. Out wide is Beven Heights, who is next to Assent; the two came in second and first respectively at the Summer Cup (2100m) on the Elwick track.

Dream Pedlar is one to watch for Monday’s 2200m race having won on the course last December at the Tasmanian Stakes (1600m). The Troy Blacker-trained gelding has not proved himself recently over longer distances, however, Blacker will be hoping the horse will better last year’s third spot at the Hobart Cup.

Rathsallagh is entering the 2010 Hobart Cup with two recent wins under her belt.

The New Zealand horse Rathsallagh is entering the 2010 Hobart Cup with two recent wins under her belt. The five-year-old mare won a 2100m restricted mare race and the Brian Green Handicap at 2400m proving herself as a strong long-distance runner.

Assent and Mr Isaac are looking to repeat their finishes at the Ingham Cup (2100m) in January where they took the first and second spots respectively. The David and Scott Brunton-trained Assent also comes in off a win at the Summer Cup (2100m) also held at Elwick.
