Big Duke has posted a number of strong results this time in and subsequently figures as a clear $1.85 favourite in 2017 Hobart Cup betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

Big Duke began his racing career in Great British in the late stages of 2015, but has undoubtedly found his best form in Australia.

Running fourth in the Christmas Raceday 18th December BM70 (1500m) on November 24th, the Raven’s Pass gelding ran well second in the Yarramalong Racing Club BM70 (1600m) and has since won each of the Dennis Hanrahan BM78 (1800m) and Schweppes Sparkling BM78 (2040m).

Big Duke will have to overcome a wide draw, but is weighted for success at only 54kgs and will be partnered by in-form hoop Brenton Avdulla.

Cool Chap is yet to herald much interest in 2017 Hobart Cup betting markets, but remains sole occupant of the second line at a $4 quote.

Cool Chap was a standout for Lee and Anthony Freedman through the 2016 Autumn Carnival; winning the Listed VRC St Leger (2800m) before finishing third in the Group 1 SA Derby (2500m).

Having run second in each of the Swettenham Stud Championship (1800m) and Schweppes Sparkling BM78 so far this season, Cool Chap will relish a step up to a mile and a half, and will leave from the ideal barrier 6 with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle.

Only two other runners, Geegees Goldengirl and Count Da Vinci are currently available at 2017 Hobart Cup odds of less-than $10, and the pair currently share the third line of betting at $7.50 quotes.

A standout amongst Tasmanian fields throughout her entire career so far, Geegees Goldengirl has posted eight wins and a further thirteen minors through her thirty-two competitive appearances.

Steadily building to the task this time, the Wordsmith mare will carry winning form into the Hobart Cup after taking out the Summer Cup (2200m) at Launceston last time out on January 22nd.

Count Da Vinci psoted five-consecutive race wins upon resuming this time and was last seen finishing second behind Geegees Goldengirl in the Summer Cup, albeit by close to four lengths.
