Falamonte Ready for 2015 Hobart Cup Test

February 6th, 2015

Talented mare Falamonte has returned to racing in competitive form this season, and is set to be offered her first chance of black type success this year in Monday’s Group 3 Hobart Cup (2200m).

Securing just two wins from her 12 competitive appearances at the races so far, Falamonte steadily built to the task over her first few starts upon resuming in October; finishing sixth in a minor over 2040m and fourth in the Ranvet FM (2040m) on December 5th before returning to the winner’s circle in the Tyrepower Sale BM64 (2226m) on December 24th.

Unlucky to be blocked for a run in the Listed Bagot Handicap (2800m) on New Year’s Day before placing a credible fourth in the Racing.com BM78 (2500m) last time out, Falamonte is a proven performer over the distance and should settle in prime position in the 2015 Hobart Cup from the ideal barrier 4.

Confirmed to take the ride in the 2015 Hobart Cup, young Tasmanian apprentice Jake Bayliss is thrilled to have been offered to opportunity to face off with father Jamie (Jakcorijim) for the first time competitively and is confident of a competitive performance from his mount.

“I didn’t think I would be race riding against him, let alone now having a Group ride in the same race,” Jake Bayliss told AAP.

“That’s another big privilege.

“She’s going to settle in the first five so barrier four is a golden gate for us and I think she’ll really run a race with 54 kilos on her back.”

A late bloomer, Falamonte debuted to racing in the early stages of 2014; winning a minor over 1850m at Kyneton but failing to figure when beating just one runner home in her major target; the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 7th.
